Women refuges told to cater for men or risk shutting down..

Many charities have been told that they must extend their counselling and
outreach services to men because of new equality laws which require local
authorities to ensure that services do not discriminate on grounds of sex.Fiona
Mactaggart, the former Home Office minister, said an "unintended consequence" of
the law has meant some domestic violence services have lost grants or contracts
for refusing to do so.She said: "There are some local authorities who interpret
equalities to mean that a refuge has to provide for men, not only for
women."There are some stupidnesses developing in the system that nobody
intended."Women's Aid, the domestic violence charity, believes its female-only
services are necessary to give abused women the reassurance they need. Often the
women and children they help will only feel comfortable without a male
presence.Nicola Harwin, chief executive of Women's Aid, which counts the Prime
Minister's wife Sarah Brown among its patrons, said the charity is still allowed
to exclude men from refuges.However, when council contracts came up for tender,
many branches are being told that they must provide services such as advice and
counselling to men or lose their funding.Miss Harwin said: "Women do appreciate
being engaged in women-only organisations. When you have been disempowered and
had no control of your life it's important for a lot of women to see that this
is an organisation run by women for women."The new Gender Equality Duty, created
under The Equality Act 2006, requires that 'public bodies must promote and take
action to bring about gender equality, which involves: looking at issues for men
and women'.However, a spokesman for the Government Equalities Office said some
councils were being overzealous about the duty, adding: "This cannot be an
excuse for cutting services. This interpretation of the duty is law."

I like this. They asked for equality and they should also play by the rules of equality. I've seen many men get hit, beat on and had things thrown at by a woman "flying off the handle."
I've often wondered why the shelters would turn away men like they never needed help. I've wondered that for years. Glad to see things are changing at a more official level.

Christian J et al. This is why we men are together on this. Feminist have never wanted equality for goodness sake. They are like my beloved Brits who walked into India declaring they would take over from here. It didn't last and this lot of hate filled mysandrists will disappear in the future.
McTaggart is behind the introduction of the UK gutter governments new law aimed at protecting sex trafficked women (and men?) by criminalising the men who use them as prostitutes if they are part of the sex slave trade. Even if they say they didn't know. EVEN if the prozzie declares herself to be a happy go lucky free girl full of freedom and liberty. It is HE that McTaggart and Harman would have criminalise. Harman and McTaggart should clearly be booted right out of parliament for using men to get into power to then hate and despise them and attempt to legitimise it by creating hate laws. This weak woman filled pathetic example of an attempt to erradicate a problems is rather like the lorry driver being sued by the lung cancer victim because he delivered the cigarettes in his truck. McTaggart and Harman are two of the vilest creatures we have in UK parliament. (You will see on my blog I have no time for people like them) Every dog has its day and the same applies to the feminists whose double standards, lies and myths and general platform to spout their vile bile of hatred will hit them right where it hurts. In their none existent balls.
What a blatant example of misandry and discrimination! Those shelters happily perpetuate the false notion that men are guilty even when proven innocent and women are innocent even when proven guilty. If children can only be with one parent, they are much safer with Dad than with Mom. Those shelters should receive NO federal funding, and have to depend completely upon private charity. As it is now, men are being taxed to support organizations that exclude, slander and demonize them! How many 'men only' help shelters does the government provide funding for?
